It is with much sadness that I communicate the recent passing of Miss Mana Jo Hammond of Burnet, Texas, Adam Johnson's granddaughter. She was the last living person who remembered Adam Johnson when he was alive. I met her when I did my Texas book tour in October, 2005. She was extremely vital, sharp, and full of life and humor at age 90. She was a sweet, sweet lady. In many ways the last link to the founding fathers of central Texas has passed. I remember her telling me that she used to walk the blind General Johnson around the square when she was a young girl. She will be missed and I will never forget her.
